A symposium hosted by the National Population Council (NPC) along with the United Nations Fund for Population in Khartoum on Wednesday revealed that the states of North, South and West Darfur were the poorest in Sudan. The poverty in the three states is at the rate of 93%. The seminar also concluded that Darfur is the worst hit in the education sector, with over 75% children out of school in South Darfur alone.

The symposium also confirmed that Darfur is the state with the most internally displaced people in the country. The phenomenon of rampant unemployment among the population, child labor and the degradation of maternal and child health is also worst experienced in Darfur.
