Medics demand better working conditions in the hospital

A strike held by doctors demanding improvement in work conditions at Nyala Hospital in South Darfur entered its fifth day on Wednesday.A striking doctor, who does not wish to be named fearing retribution from authorities on the ground, told Radio Dabanga, “The government must implement our demands with regard to improving the conditions of service and the working environment.”

He added that the government had breached its promise over the aforementioned demands. The previous strike held by the doctors three weeks ago had ended in an agreement with the Sudanese government.

However, the government had allegedly not kept its word, forcing the doctors to go on strike again.

The doctor in Nyala hospital added that they would not call off their strike, with an exception of accidents and emergencies, unless all their demands and conditions are met.
