Rebels attack Rapid Support Forces in Darfur’s East Jebel Marra

The “Darfur joint resistance forces” claim to have killed 44 government and militia troops in East Jebel Marra on Sunday. “We clashed with the Rapid Support Janjaweed in the area between Fanga and El Aradeib El Ashara on Sunday afternoon,” Mustafa Tambur, the military spokesman for the Sudan Liberation Army led by Abdel Wahid El Nur (SLA-AW) told Radio Dabanga. “We seized six Land Cruisers loaded with cannons, and destroyed ten other vehicles, among them an armoured vehicle.” Tambur said that renewed fighting erupted on Monday. “The area was bombed by the Sudanese Air Force at least 54 times, which led to the burning of the entire Fanga market and the neighbourhood south of the market. No casualties were reported.” The rebel spokesman appealed to the herdsmen and farmers to “stay far away from places where the Rapid Support militias are stationed in order to preserve their lives and their property”.
