‘Militia attacks in Sudan’s West Kordofan are war crimes’: Free Forum

The Shamam Free Forum of people living in the areas of the Misseriya tribe announced that the crimes recently committed by government-backed militias in various parts of West Kordofan amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Forum considers these crimes to be part of a systematic policy of the ruling regime, carried out by agents like the Janjaweed. The policy aims at launching “disciplinary campaigns” against the people living in the areas of Abu Zabad, Um Adara and El Durnagash, in order to empty these areas of their indigenous population by forcing them to flee and settle elsewhere, the Forum said in a press statement. The Shamam Forum has demanded the “Khartoum regime” stop the campaigns, compensate all those affected by the “practices of the Janjaweed” and withdraw all militiamen from the region. The state of West Kordofan was re-established in July 2013 after being abolished 2005 and divided between North and South Kordofan.
