US government ‘working hard with UN for peace in Darfur’

The Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Khartoum, said “the US administration is working hard with the United Nations to strengthen humanitarian efforts and bring peace to Darfur”.

According to the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA), on Monday the US Charge d’Affaires, Stephen Koutsis, acknowledged during a meeting in El Fasher with the Governor of North Darfur, Mohamed Abad Samouh, the significant improvement in the security situation in North Darfur, pointing to the importance of strengthening stability to reflect on the humanitarian side.

He called for continuation of the efforts to collect weapons, sitting with the armed movements refusing to join the peace and return to the country, adopting of new mechanisms for solutions and take into account the repercussions and causes of the conflict to reach sustainable solutions that contribute to peace in Darfur, SUNA reports.
