University opening delayed after Zalingei professor shot in leg

The deputy director of the University of Zalingei, Professor Ali Hussein Bahar, was injured in a shooting on Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place at the entrance to the city of El Geneina, when a group of teachers were hit by a barrage of gunfire by an armed group. The deputy director of the university was wounded in the left leg and brought by a vehicle belonging to the police to the hospital to receive treatment. The council of deans of the university in meeting condemened the incident and all the other incidents suffered by university professors, including a kidnapping last year. The council decided to postpone indefinitely the opening of the university, which was scheduled for next Monday. A committee of university professors has formed to meet with the Minister of Higher Education to discuss the issue.
