Militia beat doctor in El Geneina; hospital strike threatened

An armed force of Border Guards severely beat a doctor at El Geneina hospital in West Darfur, within the hospital, after the death of a Border Guard who had been suffering from injuries as a result of a car crash. The militia members accused the doctor of negligent treatment of their colleague, and after the patient died they immediately beat the doctor severely. Almost the entire staff of the hospital and the doctors began a strike in response. The hospital has become something like a military barracks. Hospital workers sent a letter to the Minister of Health demanding that the offending Border Guards be punished and asking that the state provide protection to the doctors and staff working in the hospital. The hospital staff said that if their demands are not implemented within 24 hours ending Friday then they will begin a comprehensive strike.
