UN employee kidnapped near Nyala, South Darfur

Early this morning, an armed group kidnapped an employee of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Nyala, South Darfur. Sources told Radio Dabanga that an armed group wearing military uniform abducted the employee at gunpoint, an Irish national named Patrick Von, and his driver named as El Muiz Ahmed Omar, from outside the Coptic Church in Nyala at 8:00 a.m. They were transferred to a four-wheel drive vehicle, as the gunmen fled north of Nyala. A source said the driver was released and made his way on foot to Kass, where he reported the incident to local police.
