Sudanese security detains three NCF leaders

Agents of Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) arrested three leaders of the National Consensus Forces (NCF), an alliance of Sudanese opposition parties, on Wednesday.

Agents of Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) arrested three leaders of the National Consensus Forces (NCF), an alliance of Sudanese opposition parties, on Wednesday.

Bekir Yousif, spokesman for the alliance, told Radio Dabanga that Siddig Yousif, Yahiya Hussein, and Ahmad Azhari Sadik were detained at their homes. The families of the three leaders do not know where they were taken.

Bekir Yousif predicted that more of the NCF leadership is likely to be detained. He pointed out that the NISS currently monitors and checks the headquarters of several political parties.

In a press statement following a joint meeting of the NCF leaders on Tuesday, they announced a gathering on Sunday, in front of the Constitutional Court, to protest what they call “the organised terrorism of the ruling National Congress Party within universities, where Darfuri students are targeted… and attempts to sabotage the political life of the system”.
