Authorities of El Salam locality, South Darfur, have allegedly distributed lands, unlawfully, to new residents in El Salam.

A resident of Kalma camp, Yousif Eisa Mousa, told Radio Dabanga that the local population was forced to abandon the area of El Safia Um Gad, where authorities have re-distributed lands. They imposed high fees on the pieces of commercial land, “amounting to SDG 4 million [$645,400], including cottages and shops”.

Mousa said that the Commissioner, El Sadig Abakar Hamdallah, has replaced the youth committee in El Salam, because it resists the distribution of lands. The new youth committee that is loyal to the ruling National Congress Party “threatened defiant youths with detention and expulsion from the locality”, Hamdallah said.
