Seven displaced women in the locality of Zalingei in Central Darfur reportedly sustained various injuries in an attack by militiamen. A relative of one of the women reported to Radio Dabanga that “government-backed militiamen” assaulted them while they were on their way to their farmlands at Wadi Kalunji, east of Zalingei. The militiamen chased the women. They beat and whipped them and attempted to rape them. The relative appealed to the local authorities and Unamid to protect women and girls from the abuses and assaults they are exposed to when fetching water, collecting firewood or going out to tend their farmlands.
