Security forces detained ten secondary school students in Gireida, South Darfur, on Saturday.

A teacher told Radio Dabanga that a group of 12 students of the Gireida Secondary School for Boys get together every evening to study together under the light of one of the shops of Gireida’s Nasir district.

“Suddenly, security forces stopped near the shop, and seized ten of the students. They took them to one of the security offices in the town, and beat and tortured them for two consecutive days,” he said.

“On Monday morning the students were taken to the People’s Court, where they were convicted for gambling. Each of them was sentenced to ten lashes.
