SDG1.4 million still owed to Sudanese pilgrims

The Sudanese National Audit Bureau has found that 1,545 Sudanese Hajj pilgrims are still owed substantial refunds for a price difference in air tickets.

The Sudanese National Audit Bureau has found that 1,545 Sudanese Hajj pilgrims are still owed substantial refunds for a price difference in air tickets.

The Bureau revealed that the actual tickets for the 2015 Hajj cost less than what the pilgrims paid, so the Hajj and Umrah Administration collected SDG925 ($150) for 1,545 pilgrims, totalling more than SDG1.4 million ($230,000).

The National Auditor said the amount, currently in the possession of the Hajj and Umrah Administration, belongs to pilgrims, and that the administration should have returned it to them immediately after the end of the pilgrimage season, which did not happen.
