Prisoners try to escape from Daein prison

Inmates in Daein prison in East Darfur yesterday tried to escape after breaking out of their cells and seizing weapons. Witnesses said prisoners broke in to weapons stores, shot into the air injuring one guard and tried to escape but were eventually stopped by security and police who had surrounded the area. They said the deteriorating conditions of the prisoners cells encouraged the attempt to escape which happened during a prisoner transfer. A police spokesperson in Daein denied the rebellion happened as a result of conditions in the prison and said everything now was back to normal.
