Fire destroys 40 homes in Chad refugee camp

A fire destroyed 40 homes in Jebel refugee camp in eastern Chad on Tuesday. An elder from the camp told Radio Dabanga the fire started in a house but strong winds along with a lack of water helped it to spread quickly. He said it gutted refugees’ homes and destroyed identification documents. He said there are now around 60 families left without shelter and appealed to humanitarian organisations to provide assistance with fire resistant materials to build their homes. Four children killed in fire Four children were also killed in a fire on Monday evening near El Fasher in North Darfur. A source said the fire raged through the home whilst the children were sleeping but the reasons it started are not known.
