Port Sudan stevedores lift strike

On Tuesday morning the cargo workers of three stores of the Agricultural Bank at Abu Hashish in Port Sudan lifted their a one-day strike in protest against the Agricultural Bank’s administration issuance of payment of receipts on behalf of the companies established by the governor of Red Sea state.

On Tuesday morning the cargo workers of three stores of the Agricultural Bank at Abu Hashish in Port Sudan lifted their a one-day strike in protest against the Agricultural Bank’s administration issuance of payment of receipts on behalf of the companies established by the governor of Red Sea state.

A worker told Radio Dabanga that the Agricultural Bank’s administration reversed its decision after a workers’ strike and payment vouchers on behalf of the Association of Cargo and Unloading Workers.

He said they are ready to resume the strike if the state government insists on handing-over the work of the association to companies.

El Gezira

The El Gezira and El Managil Agricultural Scheme has renewed strong support of the right of agricultural workers to adequate housing and basic services such as education, water and electricity.

Yesterday Hasabo Ibrahim, a member of the Scheme called in a seminar in Khartoum on the agricultural (seasonal) workers to establish a union of workers to defend their rights.

He praised the role of agricultural workers in the building of El Gezira Scheme and explained that they are an integral part of the social fabric in the state and partners in all the original achievements of the scheme that have the right to access services.

He explained that the Miagina conference that was organised by the alliance last year emphasised the role of agricultural workers and explained that they consider them as real allies of the scheme.
