A lorry and its driver were hijacked in Gireida, South Darfur, on Sunday.
A citizen from Gireida told Radio Dabanga that the lorry was hired by Ahmed Ishag Haroun. It was carrying about 16 passengers and commercial goods, when it was intercepted by a group of militiamen at Um Dawban. The gunmen told the passengers to disembark, seized the vehicle and its driver, and left.
The source explained that the value of the commercial goods is estimated at SDG70,000 ($12,200). The kidnappers have not yet released the driver or the vehicle.
The caller urged the local authorities to intervene and resolve the problem.
