On Tuesday morning, women activists in Sennar carried out a peaceful protest in front of Sennar hospital in eastern Sudan against the new economic policies, the increases in prices, and violence against women. Two of the participants were later detained.

One of the activists told Radio Dabanga that dozens of women carried out the protest during which they held banners with slogans denouncing the increase in medicine prices and lifting of subsidies on fuel and electricity.

She said the protest lasted for half an hour and then they then left peacefully.

Other activists told Radio Dabanga from Sennar that on Tuesday, the security services detained human rights activist and lawyer Islam Adam Omar, and journalist Awad Barty, without clarification of the reasons.

They reported that National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) agents driving a Land Cruiser raided the lawyer’s office on Tuesday shortly after the end of a protest in which lawyer Adam Islam participated.
