Kalma situation deteriorating from lack of food

The humanitarian coordinator at Kalma camp has said that more than six months without food rations to the camp is causing malnutrition related diseases to spread. He says children are forced to beg and particularly suffering from malnutrition due to the persistent state of hunger. High prices and living costs have also made already difficult circumstances worse. He said to avoid further crisis and with an initial agreement reached with the World Food Programme, he now expects them to distribute rations. The coordinator stressed that the other solution to the overall Darfur crisis is to oust the regime in Khartoum that remains responsible for creating these conditions. He said not only did they expel humanitarian organisations fro Darfur but also started a war in the region which has now spread to other states across Sudan, displacing hundreds of thousands of its own citizens and creating refugees.
