Zam Zam suffering increasing as water pumps fail
Intensive heat during the summer season is increasing the suffering of displaced people in Zam Zam camp. Witnesses said many camp residents spend half of their days queuing in long lines waiting to collect water. They also said the 66 water pumps are not nearly enough to cover the needs of 200,000 camp residents, with many said to be in a bad condition. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that they are concerned the water stations may stop working altogether because of the fuel crisis that has arisen from the high prices in Darfur and after South Sudan seized Heglig. They appealed to humanitarian organisations to provide assistance so they can provide sufficient stocks of fuel to keep the water stations working.
