JEM: UNAMID chief is part of the problem

The Justice and Equality Movement has decided to review its position in dealing with Ibrahim Gambari, the head of the joint UN/African Union Mission in Darfur saying he has become a liability and a part of the Sudanese crisis, instead of a catalyst for resolution. On Sunday in a statement, JEM accused Gambari of exceeding his remit and violating his role in UNAMID, leading to the annulment of the role of the Mission. JEM stated UNAMID donated 25 four-wheel drive vehicles to the government. They said UNAMID of takes the stance of the government, and is failing to respond to the continuous complaints by internally displaced Darfuris about issues such as shortages of medical aid and access to food. The Movement also said Gambari’s presence at a wedding of Chad’s President Deby, seen chatting to President Al Bashir shows his solidarity with a war criminal and bias against the demands of IDPs, refugees, victims and their families.JEM said ‘UNAMID are blocking the legitimate requests of IDPs and misleading the international community by reporting the security situation as calm’.
