Government to expel foreign organisations from El Geneina camps

Leader of ten camps in El Geneina have said the government through the Humanitarian Aid Commission, has told foreign organisations working at the camp that they must leave after June 30. After this date the organisations will be expected to hand over work to displaced residents and permanently exit the camps. A camp leader told Radio Dabanga that this ‘unfair decision will end health centres, water services, housing construction and various vocational training centres operated by these organisations.’ He said that this decision has been made to empty and dismantle the camps, and force displaced people to return to their areas in West Darfur. The leader also worked from an aid worker that the organisations will not be fully expelled from West Darfur, but able to work in places of voluntary return. He appealed to all international organisations and the UN to confront ‘the government’s subversive scheme of dismantling the camps’, noting that displaced people cannot run their own services as they are currently facing a situation of serious hunger.
