Government says defected soldier is ‘lying’

The Sudanese soldier that defected and joined the Justice and Equality Movement ‘was lying’, said the Sudanese army military spokesman. Speaking to the government’s Sudan news agency the spokesman said the ex-lieutenant Ibrahim Yusuf was avoiding military court charges for misappropriation of funds of his battalion, and had managed to escape. Speaking to Radio Dabanga the soldier stated yesterday that he no longer felt he could continue with the Sudanese army, because of the inhumane acts he witnessed when stationed in Zam Zam camp, near El Fasher in Darfur.
