Government forces clash with SPLM-N in S. Kordofan

The spokesman of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), Colonel El Sawarmi Khaled Saad, announced on Monday that the army ‘liberated’ the area of Mapho in South Kordofan. He claimed that the armed forces killed around 66 rebels and wounded another 70, besides destroying a tank, four Land Cruiser vehicles and two tractors. The spokesman stated that several soldiers of the armed forces were killed and a few injured during the battle.However, Arno Ngutulu Lodi, spokesman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, described El Sawarmi’s statement as ‘a lie’ and ‘misleading the Sudanese public opinion’. He confirmed the occurrence of a battle on Friday between SPLM-N troops and government forces. Moreover, he added that the battle is still ongoing and that they were able to repel three attacks by the armed forces.Also, he claimed that the Sudanese Air Forces dropped eight bombs on the village of Kolo in Heiban locality of South Kordofan. The bombing resulted in the death of three civilians, including two children, Ngutulu added. Among the dead were Samra Mahmoud, 32 years old, Gijyaih, two-years-old and eight-year-old Yunnan Yasser, Ngutulu stated.Radio Dabanga file photo
