Government accuses youth centres of storing weapons in Hamidiya camp

The UN/African Union Mission in Darfur investigated youth centres in Hamidiya camp in Zalingei after the government accused camp residents of using the centres create offenders and hide stockpiles of weapons. Zalingei camp coordinator told Radio Dabanga that the inspection process took place after camp leaders met with UNAMID representatives. He said the representatives saw all the rooms in the centres and could not find any weapons. He added that if they did have access to weapons camp residents would have been able to defend themselves against militia attacks. The coordinator said the doors are always open to UNAMID to reinspect the centres.
