Thousands of civilians from Kass district went out in search of gold which is said to have been discovered three kilometers east of the city. Witnesses said that the streets of the city became almost lifeless during the afternoon hours because most of the residents went to the discovered area in search of gold along with thousands of others from different parts of Darfur. On the other hand, sources from Kass District interviewed by Radio Dabanga doubted the presence of gold which attracted citizens to the area for almost three weeks without any gain for their toils. The sources described the issue of gold as part of the plots of the National Congress Party to distract the citizens and turn their attention from looking for solutions to their basic needs in Darfur.
