Darfuri in Nyala camp suffer from fever, medicine shortage

Residents of the Otash camp for the displaced people in Nyala locality, South Darfur, have complained about the spreading of fevers in the camp, a scarcity of medicines, and the stalling of a number of pumps in the camp. A sheikh in the camp revealed to Radio Dabanga that a fever has spread in the camp during the past week. “The symptoms are high fever, pain in the ear and in the throat, headaches, and vomiting,” he claimed. “There are no medicines in the camp’s health centre, which is managed by the Sudanese Red Crescent Society.” The sheikh added that displaced people face difficulties to obtain drinking water, because a number of pumps has stalled in the camp. “Four out of the six pumps have broken down,” the leader said, appealing to the authorities to quickly provide medicines, and repair the pumps.
