Darfur’s East Jebel Marra bombed after attacks

A number of citizens were killed, and others were wounded on Monday when the Sudanese Air Force bombarded areas in East Jebel Marra. The bombardments came after Rapid Support Forces had attacked the areas on Saturday. “Two Antonov aircrafts of the Sudanese Air Force on Sunday bombed areas in East Jebel Marra, including the villages of Nimra, Dali, Jebel Dango, and West Korofala,” a listener in East Jebel Marra told Radio Dabanga. “People were killed, others were wounded, a large number of livestock was killed, and vast tracts of farmlands burned down.” The source explained that it is difficult to determine the human and material losses because most of the villagers fled to the mountains and valleys nearby. “We heard loud explosions and saw smoke plumes rising from the bombarded areas until late Monday evening.” On Saturday, troops of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces had attacked the villages of Tarny, Khartoum Belleil, Konjara,  Nimra, Yara, and Dolma in East Jebel Marra, the source related.“The militia troops arrived in 300 vehicles loaded with various weapons. They fired into the air before they began beating and torturing the people, especially the youth. They plundered the villages, and took all the cattle in the area. Khadija Adam Yusif (7) and Musa Ibrahim (8) were killed. Ali Nur Samara and an older woman were seriously injured.” “Some people fled towards Shangil Tobaya, but most of them sought refuge in the mountains and valleys.” File photo (Radio Dabanga) Related: 10,000 flee militia attacks on Darfur’s East Jebel Marra (16 March 2014)
