Central Darfur displaced denounce new settlements

The displaced in Central Darfur condemn the new settlements currently taking place on their lands. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, Jamal Adam Mohamed, the spokesman for the Good Services Committee in Central Darfur, explained that the state authorities had transferred the chieftainships of Tenti and Derei from Zalingei locality in Central Darfur to Kass locality in South Darfur.“After the transferral, people from neighbouring countries began to move into the region, and settled in about 52 of our villages. The owners of these lands are surviving in the camps for the displaced.” Mohamed said that the Committee has issued a statement denouncing the new settlements, and warning for the dangers of manipulation of land ownership. The Committee demands from the authorities to “put an end to the settlements and stop the establishment of training camps for the outlaws”.
