‘Blue Nile citizens exposed to torture in prisons’

Citizens from Blue Nile have complained about mistreatment of people from Blue Nile in several prisons in Sudan; Roseiris, Medani, Port Sudan, Khartoum and Sennar.A resident from Blue Nile revealed to Radio Dabanga on Wednesday, 26 December, that around 113 people from Blue Nile are currently detained and added that those arrested by the security and intelligence forces are not included and could not give any estimate.The resident claims that the prisoners are exposed to maltreatment and torture in detention, as well as denial of medication or even family visits. He appealed to the authorities as well as international organizations to intervene and push for the release of their people. The resident explained that some of the prisoners had surrendered to the authorities, and that presidential instructions entail offering amnesty to whoever surrenders to the authorities.file photo
