Zalingei camps suffer from lack of water

A fuel crisis in Sudan badly affects the access to water for camp residents in Zalingei, central Darfur. Due to the fuel crisis – most of the pumps work on generators – displaced people have to travel long distances before reaching a functioning water pump. Leaders of camps Hamidiya, Hassa Hissa, Khamsa Dagaig, Taiba and Alsalam told Radio Dabanga there are long queues with people trying to fetch water. They said displaced people are fighting to access the pumps. Camp leaders explained the situation is worsening because some pumps are damaged and not working anymore. They hope humanitarian organisations will distribute extra water in the affected camps of Zalinglei.
