Women protest ‘corrupt’ Zakat Chamber in East Darfur

More than 150 women protested in Ed Daein, capital of East Darfur, against the policies of the Zakat Chamber on Wednesday morning.
They gathered in front of the office of the Commissioner of Ed Daein locality, protesting against the refusal of the Islamic alms institution to assist them.

They gathered in front of the office of the Commissioner of Ed Daein locality, protesting against the refusal of the Islamic alms institution to assist them.

A listener told Radio Dabanga that the women, “most of them widows and other single mothers”, submitted a memorandum to the executive director of the locality, in which they accused the Zakat Chamber of corruption and nepotism.

“The director addressed the protesters, and pledged to have resolved the problem by Thursday,” he said.
