A 15-year-old Sudanese refugee girl from camp Gaga in eastern Chad was reportedly gang raped by three men from the camp on Thursday. Sheikh Yassin Abdelkarim told Radio Dabanga that the security authorities arrested three perpetrators who have reportedly confessed to the crime. He called on the autorities to raise the maximum penalty for these crimes. As previously reported by Radio Dabanga, in a statement on Darfur to the UN Security Council in June, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Fatou Bensouda, highlighted “the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war” as one of the crimes for which “impunity must end”.
