A man has been arrested in West Darfur on suspicion of being an infamous serial killer, authorities have announced. They said the killer is known for drawing blood from his victims and is publicly referred to as a ‘vampire’.

The killer “has terrified the residents of Foro Baranga, Gemeiza Babikir, Murreni and Um Gokuti”, police authorities told Sudanese media on Sunday. In these areas he is called 'Um Kaggama'.

The police discovered a grave in a house in Murnei, which holds approximately nine bodies of victims from whom the killer drew blood which apparently led to their deaths. Um Kaggama is also suspected of involvement in the disappearance of many others.

The Federal Ministry of Health sent a forensics team, led by doctor Aqeel Sawaar El Dahab, and criminal investigators who have exhumed the bodies from the graves, conducted a medical examination and took samples to identify the victims.

According to the police, “[Um Kaggama] is a charismatic man who used human blood and body parts for matters of superstition.”
