Liberation and Justice Party (LJP) MP Siham Hassan has raised “urgent questions” for Sudan’s Interior Minister, Esmat Abdel Rahman, demanding he clarify the resent incidents of deadly violence in Darfur.

Hassan called on the Minister to clarify what happened in West Darfur, Tur in Jebel Marra, and El Fasher, which claimed the lives of three people.

Also she demanded explanation for the incidents in Azerni, Um Tajok, Tur, Nyala, El Geneina, and Zalingei.

Hassan strongly condemned the escalation of the recent violence in Darfur for targeting and killing civilians, and burning villages in various parts of the region during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

She described the recurring incidents as “a heinous and flagrant violation of human rights”.

The MP pointed to “the lack of any government vision or strategy in facing or addressing insecurity and instability in Darfur”.

Hassan concluded that “the government has not fulfilled its obligations to extend security, prosecute the perpetrators of crimes, and bring them to justice.
