UNSC delegation arrives in Darfur as Sudan army admits to offensive

The UN Security Council arrived to El Fasher in North Darfur and the Sudanese army admitted yesterday to launching an attack on the areas west of Deribat in East Jebel Marra, especially Suni village. The offensive took place concurrently with the Security Council’s visit to Darfur 160 km from the site of the UN meetings. The Sudanese army admitted to the offensive in the same areas where the SLA-AW had claimed it was taking place. The rebel military spokesman Nimr Abdelrahman told Radio Dabanga the day before yesterday that the army had launched a ground and air assault east of Jebel Marra on villages there and targeting civiliansThe army spokesman Al Sowarmi Khaled Saad told Reuters news agency that the army attacked the area of Suni yesterday morning at 10 a.m. and “expelled the rebels from Eastern Jebel Marra.”
