UNAMID: cooperation instrumental to mission’s implementation

Aïchatou Mindaoudou, Acting Joint Special Representative (AJSR) and Joint Chief Mediator a.i. of UNAMID concluded a two-day visit to East and South Darfur on Wednesday, 12 December, according to a statement. During the visit, she discussed issues such as the protection of civilians including local mediation, access, security of UNAMID personnel, peace process, yellow fever, early recovery, and quick impact projects.In a meeting with East Darfur’s governor, Mindaoudou stated that “the cooperation with government authorities and the community is instrumental to the successful implementation of UNAMID’s protection of civilian’s strategy, particularly on access, preventive measures and rapid response”.The AJSR and the governor discussed the implementation of the Doha Document, UNAMID’s framework for the protection of civilians (PoC) and the mission’s efforts to support local mediation initiatives.In Nyala, South Darfur, the AJSR dicussed matters such as yellow fever, issues of access of UNAMID and UN to all parts of Darfur, particularly East Jebel Marra, safety and security of the mission’s personnel with the state’s governor. They also talked about the cooperation between the State and UNAMID in implementing the mission’s PoC strategy. Both parties agreed to continue strengthening cooperation and dialogue between UNAMID and state authorities to achieve peace in the region.Photo: Aïchatou Mindaoudou greets a woman in El Daein, by Rania Abdulrahman (UNAMID)
