The UN – African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) confirmed on Wednesday that four women were raped and beaten in North Darfur. The perpetrators were three armed men who carried out the crime near the village of Dorma, 25 kilometres north of Tawilla. The incident was first reported by Radio Dabanga on 17 January, although the number of victims reported at that time was six and the women were identified rather as girls between the ages of 14 and 20. They had gone out of their camp to collect firewood, accompanied by two men, who were tied up and beaten severely, a tribal leader had recounted.
