Two shot dead in another attack on Central Darfur camp

Two men were shot dead in Hamidiya camp in Zalingei locality, Central Darfur, on Friday morning in an attack by militia members on the market. The group has attacked and terrorised the displaced people in the camp for almost a week now. Four other people were injured when the government-backed militiamen raided Abuja market in Hamidiya at 8 am, the coordinator of the Zalingei camps reported to Radio Dabanga. “The militiamen fired many bullets into the air as they approached the market. They beat the people there, and robbed them of their belongings.” He added that ten houses were raided. The coordinator revealed that Izzeldin Abakar Osman (37) and Adam Ismail Hussein (45) were killed in the attack. Tijani Adam Khater Khamis (21), Abdelrazeg Yassin Adam Khalil (25), Zakaria Omar Mohamed (32), Yousef Adam Tur (37), and Younis Adam Adam sustained injuries. They were taken to Zalingei hospital. In addition, two men were abducted: Abulgasem Idris Ismail (28) and Yaser Abdelmoula (30). “The militiamen still linger south of the camp, and remain a threat for the residents,” the coordinator stressed. He added that the government and the UN-AU peacekeeping mission in Darfur should carry the responsibility for the security in the camp. The members of a Zalingei committee, including the Sheikhs and the leaders of the displaced people, demanded the release of the arrested people on Friday, as well as the reopening of roads, and a judicial process for the leaders of the terrorising militia. On Wednesday morning, the militia group besieged Hamidiya too, and seriously injured two men. On Sunday evening, militiamen terrified camp residents as they fired bullets into the air for two continuous hours. Map: Zalingei locality in Sudan’s Central Darfur state.
