Two killed in Kalma camp

Humnitarian coordinator accuses LJM of being behind the crimeTwo refugees were killed and one wounded on Wednesday in South Darfur’s Kalma camp in an attack by unidentified armed men.The humanitarian coordinator of the camp told Radio Dabanga that three displaced people lived in Block 4, 5 and 7 of the refugee camp. The motives behind the firing that took place on Wednesday night are still unclear.Though the armed men did not identify themselves as belonging to any group, the humanitarian coordinator for Kalma camp suspected them to be belonging to the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM).He said that armed LJM groups had pitched tents in Block 2 of the refugee camp, spreading fear and panic among camp residents. Refugees expressed concerns about a probable repeat of last year’s events when clashes erupted after a few LJM supporters had returned to the camp.The camp coordinator asked the the United Nations African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) to take responsibility for protection of civilians in the camp.Delegates of the LJM are visiting various camps across Darfur after their return from the Doha peace talks. Radio Dabanga reported on Tuesday about the poor reception of the LJM leaders at the refugee camps across Darfur.
