Trial begins for robbers of Darfur’s Tadamon bank

The detective in the case of the Tadamon Bank robbery revealed that one of the culprits in the case was part of a kidnapping gang responsible for abducting four Russian pilots. Eleven (11) suspects in the case are on trial in Nyala.

The detective in the case of the Tadamon Bank robbery revealed that one of the culprits in the case was part of a kidnapping gang responsible for abducting four Russian pilots. Eleven (11) suspects in the case are on trial in Nyala.The bank was robbed in plain daylight on 28 September 2011. Gunmen who stormed the bank escaped with over 200.000 SDG. Police Colonel Ahmed Yousef said that the robbery was carried out by two vehicles and four masked men.

At the beginning of a trial in Nyala, the detective told the court that the driver of one of the vehicles was part of a gang responsible for terrorizing the citizens of Nyala and kidnapping four Russian pilots, an American and a German.

The detective said that the defendants in the case number 11 people who face charges related to looting, banditry and terrorism — a charge punishable by death.

For his part, Councillor Al Fatih Tayfur, the chief prosecutor, asked the court to sentence the men to death, accusing them of flouting the law and endangering the lives of citizens to rob the Tadamon Bank during daytime in Nyala.
