Traffic in North Darfur crippled by militia banditry

A commercial vehicle was reportedly ambushed by pro-government militiamen on the road from El Fasher to Kabkabiya in North Darfur on Sunday evening. A witness told Radio Dabanga that seven gunmen intercepted the vehicle loaded with goods and passengers at about 4pm in the Dembo area. “The insurgents unloaded all the passengers including the driver, stripped them of their possessions, money and mobile mobiles and then took the vehicle with the goods on board to an unknown destination,” the witness said. Pro-government militiamen also allegedly stole five commercial vehicles in Central Darfur on the road from Umm Dukhun to Garsila after assaulting and beating the passengers and stealing SDG40,000 ($9,000) from them.One of the victims told Radio Dabanga that “due to the constant banditry of militias, commercial traffic between Uum Dukhun, Garsila and Zalingei has almost stopped since Friday”.
