Torrential rains destroy 150 homes in S. Darfur

According to Radio Dabanga sources, heavy rains and floods swept away the area of Rahid El-Bardi Locality in South Darfur, on Saturday August 25. He said the rains destroyed 150 homes and more than 500 acres of agricultural lands.Residents said that before any help is provided, local authorities asked them to register their names on a list, so they can assess the damage. Citizens explained this list will be submitted to the Rahid El-Bardi Locality and then to state authorities who will provide support. They pointed out that so far no assistance has been provided and that they are living under harsh circumstances.Through Radio Dabanga, citizens appealed to authorities and humanitarian aid organizations to help them and prevent humanitarian and environmental disasters from happening. They added the stagnant water is an excellent breeding place for mosquitoes and flies.
