Four pairs of twins were born in Kordofan at the end of last week. Three of the babies died.
A nurse working at En Nahud Hospital in West Kordofan told Radio Dabanga that the twins were all born in their seventh month a few days ago.
One pair of twins, two boys, was born at the En Nahud Hospital. The three other pairs were born in a hospital in El Obeid, capital of North Kordofan, where their mothers were transferred to as facilities in En Nahud Hospital are lacking.
The first-born of the twins in the En Nahud Hospital died of a lack of oxygen, the nurse said. Two other babies born in El Obeid died as well.
The nurse expressed her concern about the shortage of equipment in En Nahud Hospital, and urged the health authorities to provide the hospital in the West Kordofan capital En Nahud with a fully equipped emergency room with incubators.
