Last week, fierce fighting erupted between government forces and fighters of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) north of Delling in South Kordofan.

Thousands of people fled their homes in the areas of El Firshaya, Alwan, and Keder, and sought refuge in Dibebad, the North Kordofan capital of El Obeid, and Khartoum, one of them reported to Radio Dabanga from El Obeid.

“A number of fleeing villagers were robbed on the way by members of the paramilitary Popular Defence Forces and other militiamen,”he said.

“Many new displaced are currently living in the open. They could not take anything with them apart from the clothes they were wearing.”

The source added that “the authorities in El Obeid have refused to provide any assistance”.
