Sudanese traders in El Gezira protest tax increases

Market traders in El Managil locality in El Gezira have threatened to definitely close their shops in protest against the doubling of the taxes this year.
“Early this week, El Gezira State tax employees arrived from Wad Madani, and re-estimated the annual domestic trade taxes,” a trader reported to Radio Dabanga on Friday.
“We closed our shops at El Managil Market for half a day in protest against the 200 percent increase.”
He stressed that the El Managil traders are committed to pay their annual taxes, according to the estimates done in the locality this year. “Yet the estimates by the state authorities from Wad Madani are random and baseless. They have nothing to do with the reality.
“We demand the cancellation of the re-estimated figures, and the adoption of the annual estimates approved by the locality, as in the past,” he said.
