Sudanese students supporting Darfuris beaten, detained

More than 100 students were detained on Monday during a raid on the University of Bahri in Khartoum. A woman student told Radio Dabanga that agents of the National Intelligence and Security Services accompanied by student supporters of the ruling National Congress Party, attacked a group of students, beating them with sticks and metal bars, causing various injuries They then detained 103 of the students. She explained that the students who were attacked and detained were standing in solidarity with Darfuri students who have been on strike since Tuesday in protest against not being exempt from paying tuition fees. The 103 were taken to El Doroshap District police station, from where 101 of them were released on Monday night. Two students named Mutasim and Assem Omar are still being held.
