Sudanese police suspend Jebel Awlia athletes’ case

The case of five members of the Sudanese athletics team detained by the Jebel Awlia Public Order police in southern Khartoum on Saturday for wearing “indecent dress” has not been referred to the prosecutor yet.
Defence lawyer, Allahjabu Suleiman, said at a press conference in the Sudanese capital that the police of Jebel Aulia decided to suspend the case on Saturday.
Earlier that day, police officers held ten members (three women and seven men) of the national athletics team for wearing “indecent dress” while they were training at the White Nile beach near Jebel Aulia.
Five of the team members were charged under article 152 of the Sudanese Criminal Code regarding “obscene and indecent acts”, while five others were released after showing their military identity cards.
