The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Khartoum announced the release of its General Consul to Benghazi, Abdelhaleem Omar, on Thursday.

In a statement to Sudan News Agency (Suna), Ambassador Ali El Siddig, the spokesman for the Ministry, reported that the Consul has resumed his work.

The Consul was detained on Wednesday after he had visited Sudanese inmates of El Beidaa prison. The Foreign Ministry immediately summoned the Libyan ambassador in Sudan, and protested the detention on the ground that it posed a violation of the international diplomacy laws.

Ambassador El Siddig said that the Consul denounced the claim of the Undersecretary of the Libyan Foreign Ministry that he had visited the prison without permission from the authorities.
