Sudan TV vehicle hijacked in North Darfur ‘about to be recovered’
Investigations in North Darfur into the theft of a Land Cruiser belonging to the National Television Corporation on Friday, have led to the identification of the hijackers.
The governor of North Darfur, Osman Kibir, told reporters on Sunday that the vehicle is about to be recovered. He excluded that an armed group or gang was behind hijacking.
The vehicle was ambushed on El Obeid-El Fasher road. The TV crew was on its way to El Fasher to cover the visit of the First Vice-President, Lt. Col. Bakri Hassan Saleh, to the North Darfur capital today.
The National Television Corporation reported in a press statement on Saturday that the attackers assaulted some of the crew members. The driver and a programme assistant were taken hostage, but were later released.
